First edition of this collection of essays on the customs of classical times, covering a wide range of topics, particularly that of rituals, both public and domestic: food, medical matters, funerals, schooling, etc. etc. Each of the 49 essays is addressed to a contemporary scholar - one Dutchman, Vossius, and 48 Italians such as Settala, Liceti, Pignoria, together with some lesser known figures.
